Clyde Patterson Posted December 27, 2015 Report Posted December 27, 2015 Spriter crashes on startup using windows 10. Uninstalled the program and reinstalled, still will not start. Windows 10 home, HP Pavilion, AMD A10-5700 with Radeon HD Graphics 3.4GHz, 18 GB memory. Any suggestions? Quote
Mike at BrashMonkey Posted December 27, 2015 Report Posted December 27, 2015 Hi Clyde, Sorry you're having problems running Spriter. Please try disabling openGL in Spriter by downloading and executing this registry entry. If you are running Spriter Pro from Steam, please verify the integrity of the application cache, by right-clicking on Spriter Pro in your Steam library, and selecting Properties. Then in the Local Files tab, click Verify Integity of Application Cache. Please let me know if either of these resolve your issue. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted December 28, 2015 Author Report Posted December 28, 2015 I downloaded the program from "Brashmonkey." I have set the registry to "false." Will see what this does. Thanks. There was no change, all I got was a white Winform and then the program crashed. I have included a png file of the registry, hope this helps. Quote
Mike at BrashMonkey Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Thanks for the additional information Clyde, and sorry again for the inconvenience. Edgar is looking into this matter now. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted December 29, 2015 Author Report Posted December 29, 2015 Where do I look for the crash file, it has been a while since I have had to do that. If you can direct me to it I will copy it and send it to you, surely that would help. Quote
lucid Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 @Clyde Patterson could you please try downloading and installing the Visual Studio 2010 32 bit runtime, and let me know if it fixes the issue. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted December 31, 2015 Author Report Posted December 31, 2015 Apparently I already have a newer version of the runtime on my computer according to the message box. I am open for any suggestions. Thanks for trying. Quote
TheZakMan Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 What is the AMD driver version you are using? Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted December 31, 2015 Author Report Posted December 31, 2015 I thought this might be easier. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted December 31, 2015 Author Report Posted December 31, 2015 Uninstalled version 5 and installed version 4.1, that works, upgraded to 5 and the same problem. I hope that you are able to resolve the problem, I purchased the program from your website and feel that once you fix this problem it will be a great program. Sincerely, Clyde Quote
lucid Posted January 1, 2016 Report Posted January 1, 2016 @Clyde Patterson , if you still have the non-working 5 installed, can you overwrite the exe file with this one : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/257875422/SpriterForums/Spriter.zip This is just the actual exe, not the installer, so you'll need to copy it to the Spriter installation directory. Please let me know if that fixes anything. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted January 2, 2016 Author Report Posted January 2, 2016 Sorry, it did not fix the problem. I replaced the exe file with the new exe file and there was no difference. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted January 2, 2016 Author Report Posted January 2, 2016 Here is a screenshot of what it is doing. This only last for a few seconds and then it closes, no error message box just the screen that you see below for a few seconds. Quote
lucid Posted January 2, 2016 Report Posted January 2, 2016 @Clyde Patterson , Ok. I'm going to add some things to help debug startup issues, which will go in the upcoming version. In the meantime, it looks like your graphics card drivers aren't completely up to date. This may or may not be the issue, but it has helped some people who were having issues starting the program in the past. You can update your graphics drivers here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download Quote
lucid Posted January 2, 2016 Report Posted January 2, 2016 @Clyde Patterson Your original screenshot shows you having driver version 15.200.1065.0, but the AMD site says that version 15.7.1 of the Catalyst drivers is available, as well as the beta of the new Crimson drivers. It could just be the driver page is showing the wrong version, but I'd try manually updating, anyway. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted January 3, 2016 Author Report Posted January 3, 2016 I updated the drivers and there is no difference. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted January 14, 2016 Author Report Posted January 14, 2016 Has anyone figured out how to fix the crashing at startup. Since I purchased the program and it will not work, perhaps a little later a fix will be found but if it is a newer version will I have to purchas the program again or will a new registration number be given instead? Quote
Mike at BrashMonkey Posted January 14, 2016 Report Posted January 14, 2016 @ Clyde Patterson, You will not have to purchase any update builds. Your serial number will work for all versions of Spriter Pro as they are released. Most people who have had Spriter crash on start-up have had the issue resolved by installing that specific version of this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=5555 or changing an entry in regedit, or updating their video card drivers. Edgar is working on an update build of Spriter which should produce crash report information of some sort, which might help us figure out the remaining issue. Thanks for your patience. -Mike at BrashMonkey Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted January 14, 2016 Author Report Posted January 14, 2016 I have found a work around for the crashing. At the startup screen it ask for "Automatic Update Setting". Instead of saving, press cancel and set the auto update window to not start at program start. The program is running for now, I haven't tried to create anything in the program yet. I hope this gives some insight to what is going on with the crashing at startup. Quote
lucid Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 12 hours ago, Clyde Patterson said: press cancel and set the auto update window to not start at program start This is extremely helpful actually. Are you saying you set it to "Don't automatically check for updates", or you just press cancel every time? Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted January 15, 2016 Author Report Posted January 15, 2016 I just press cancel every time I start the program. i was able to get it to this point be uninstalling the program and removing the Brashmonkey from the registry, then reinstalling the program. I had to remove it from the registry before I could get it to this point. Sincerely, Clyde Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted January 18, 2016 Author Report Posted January 18, 2016 Also going to the Edit, Settings menu and telling the program to check for updates crashes Spriter. Hope that gives you more insight to the problem. Quote
Clyde Patterson Posted February 17, 2016 Author Report Posted February 17, 2016 Spriter 6.1 has a reported file "WS.Reputation.1" that Norton has deleted. This is from Norton's website; { Updated: February 15, 2012 3:15:47 PM Type: Other Risk Impact: High Systems Affected: Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP Behavior WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology.
