Our 2 man team is about to start working on animations for our game, and we are considering either Spine or Spriter. We've tried the Spine trial and it works great, but the pro version is almost $300. Spriter pro is only $60, and has some additional features, so we thought we'd give it a look. It's hinging on whether or not Spriter can export animations that can be read natively by Game Maker, rather than everything having to export every frame to spritesheets.https://solitaire.onl/ 9apps.ooo/
