The file palette drags out the file as a new object, as you can have several unique objects with the same image, or a single object that changes to many images over time. You can double click the object to rename it. to drag out a new instance of another object you've already used, use the object palette (tabbed behind the file palette by default). You can combine two objects using the object palette, by dragging one on top of the other.
