Spriter And Side Scrollers

Hello All,

I Was just wondering if Spriter is able to do animation for side scrolling platforms? Seeing how I'm using C2 and am not on artist or animator, Spriter seems like a godsend. I searched but couldn't find and answer.

Also, if it can do side view animations, any tips on implementing it in Spriter.

Thank you for any help on this.

Hi Jeffige,

Modular animation methods (as used by Spriter) are especially great for making side (or perfectly overhead) view games.

Actually, one of the first two official fully animated art packs whichwe'll be releasing around the same time as Spriter Pro 1.0 is specifically for side scrolling platformer games, which will include a thoroughly animated platformer player character, as well as basic enemies and a few "bosses".

When I get the time in the next few weeks, I'll try to release a preview.

Also, to learn to animate with Spriter, have you watched all our tutorial videos?

cheers,

Mike at BrashMonkey

Thanks for the reply Mike,

yes, I have watched more than a few of the tutorials. The reason I asked about the side view is because when I tried to connect the bones to the sprite images themselves it was very difficult to say the least. I could get the body, head and nearest leg and arm to connect but when I tried to the farthest limbs it wouldn't allow me to connect. It kept wanting to re-connect the parent (body) bone.

I tried placing the limbs at different angles (in a running motion) and still got the same result. No biggie, in trying to find a workaround, I actually made the sprite at a hint of an angle, and it looks much better than a plain side view.

Thanks again for the reply. Can't wait for the sprite packs.
