I don't know if you're still interested but I'm working on a python implementation (pygame as a rendering engine). I plan on using it as a reference. If you're interested I can upload it to a github as soon as I've got it ready.

Zkane, it's not that you can generate it, some games show a Steam pop-up during start-up with a warning that goes like this: "This Steam game requires a special product key, shown below. When the game asks for it type it as shown here". Also, there used to be an option to "View CD key" in some menu, but I don't remember where :-/ I hope they come back to us with an answer, I'd like to use this software but I draw and program in Linux and don't like the idea of having to switch from Linux to Windows just to animate something or tweak an animation.

If the Linux version is going to be delayed much longer, I'd also be interested in having a key to use the stand-alone version. In other Steam games there are ways to get a "CD-Key" while running the application, something like that would be great :)
